This week UNFORGOTTEN hit 100,000 overall downloads! After the release of the last episode, listenership has increased a good deal. For example, this month, we've averaged about 1,500 downloads per day!
I know this is getting repetitive, but I want to say again, thank you guys SOO MUCH for helping to get this off the ground and launch Matt's case into the public arena!
With so much buzz around the podcast, I don't want to squander any opportunity to build more interest and press coverage on this Matt's unsolved murder. I want the 2nd season to be hard hitting. I want to convey what I've already learned (and haven't yet shared) in a powerful way, and I want to be able to gather more information that is out there.
So far, the podcast has been funded almost entirely by myself (with some help from friends and family along the way). Trust me, I do things on the cheap, so we aren't talking about a lot of money. Altogether, from equipment, mastering costs, research, distribution and advertising, I've easily spent over $1,000 (don't tell my wife). Of course, I'm willing to continue to invest in it, because I believe it's important.
I've really struggled with the idea of selling ads or raising money for the podcast. I do not want to "make money" off of this, nor do I want to be accused of trying to make money off of this horrible tragedy. However, I often wonder how much more I could do if I had more resources to work with. So many people, from Mooresville and beyond, have offered to help in any way that they can, and recently I've been seriously considering asking for donations to be used solely for the work of investigating Matt's murder and the creation, distribution, and promotion of the podcast.
To this end, I have considered about making a GoFundMe or Patreon, giving listeners the chance to partner through small donations. Each member or investor would receive a monthly email with additional content(like extended interviews) and also an update on how exactly the funds are being used (i.e. equipment cost, distribution, advertising, public records requests, research data bases, etc).
But before I made any decisions, I wanted to propose this to you all, the good folks of the Forum, to see what you all think.
Your feedback is very much appreciated.
