Hi, As I have just finished reading every post on this forum, I figured I'd give a few thoughts. I live in Mooresville, I am not a native of NC nor was I here in 2009. I do live near Gabriel estates. I also know quite a few involved in this case, personally.
I'll say this, the MPD I have noticed are very quiet for whatever reasons. You will hear of things happening then NEVER hear any resolution. I can tell you for a fact (firsthand knowledge) Police will purposely withhold and alter important info on purpose. Many of killers have been caught because they knew info that was not released publicly. With that being said.... While the 2 gun theory is interesting to say the least can, and does lead to MANY directions. We have to ask, "Was it a mistake?" Is it possible that it was NOT a .40 cal? I wonder because it doesn't make sense in a 1 killer situation to switch weapons unless during the struggle the first was dropped and another was pulled. Possible but not likley because whoever killed Matt, killed him with fierce passion.
A 357 revolver would be more probable. The 357 mag projectile is simillar in size to a 40 and it will safely shoot .38 bullets without danger of damaging the gun or causing danger to the shooter. You absolutely can NOT shoot .38 out of a .40.... not safely.
They found no brass/casings and you won't from a revolver. We all know the timeline. Was this an error by Police? Or possibly stated on purpose to throw things off?
I am convinced this was not a random murder. Too much suggest otherwise.
I did not know Matt, but have heard of his character. I have many thoughts and theories (many have been covered already) but I will refrain at the moment. I just wanted to throw this out.

Yes you are correct the police will not talk about it at all. In one of the episodes the preacher states he runs into detectives working the case and they talk to him about the case. That is 100% hogwash !! They say it’s an open case that’s all they will say. It’s a shame. We should all be calling the local news daily to get this investigation back in the limelight no matter who may feel uncomfortable. Justice needs to be served!!

Justice needs to be served!! wirebender You are absolutely right, we have to keep pushing news outlets to cover it! I've come to believe the most fruitful option would be to engage a nationally syndicated true crime podcast/show/documentarian on the case (i.e. True Crime Daily, Oxygen, Nancy Grace, etc), rather than local news outlets. For whatever reason, local news stations are thoroughly uninterested/allergic in this case for whatever reason. At times last year, I was in (very preliminary) conversations with producers from Investigation Discovery after they reached out to me. While I don't know exactly why it didn't pan out, I know there was major concern over Matt's family's/Mooresville PD's attitude towards the podcast and the strong likelihood they'd refuse to participate in a TV special. I don't know if ID ever reached out to them, or if they scrapped it for another reason, but eventually the guy just wouldn't return my calls. What I told him was that, if they were interested in doing a story on Matt's murder, I would start a grassroots campaign in Mooresville, prompting citizens to DEMAND Mooresville PD work with Investigation Discovery on doing a TV episode. However, I didn't want to create that kind of campaign only to have ID say they weren't interested, so I was really waiting for their go-ahead, which never came. The truth is this: police departments comment on/share information about ongoing murder investigations ALL THE TIME. Hell, I even found several instances where Mooresville PD released new information/gave press conferences on ongoing unsolved murder cases they were investigating. No, they can't share everything, and they have to protect certain key information, but they can and should talk about this case publicly. Mooresville citizens should be outraged at how their police department has handled this case. When it comes to Pastor Wicker, I personally don't doubt what he said about his talking to the lead detective on occasion "about the case". As I recall he said something along the lines of how he knows that if the lead detective did learn anything new about the case he wouldn't tell him, indicating that the detective hasn't really told anything substantial.

Freddie If you could get someone to cover this nation wide that would be awesome. I think you would have lots of support from the community. People are sick and tired of this just being swept under the rug so to speak. At this point people don’t care really what the family thinks they want justice for Matt. If Matt was one of my kids I would not rest until someone was in prison. Keep doing what you doing I want another podcast. Thanks so much for everything you have done keep up the fight.

Have you considered billboards up and down i77 in the surrounding Mooresville areas? Something along the lines of a picture of Matt and ‘Who Killed Me?’ Or Unforgotten or something.

Thanks wirebender Behind a lot of unsolved cases that are eventually solved after many years, there's usually a person or group of people who were been pushing for answers and keeping the story fresh in people's minds and as a top priority of law enforcement. flogrown77 I definitely remember looking into doing billboards at some point! It seems like what a lot of victim's family's do to generate new leads and keep the case out there. I remember being a little discouraged by the price tag. So, I wouldn't be able to do billboards on my own, financially, but I'd certainly be willing to help contribute if someone else wanted to do it. Finance wise, even with significant contributions from listeners (primarily my very supportive family), I still end up spending a lot of money on the podcast production, advertising, and distribution. Even still, keeping the podcast and website up costs money. What I have more seriously considered was making bumperstickers that say "WhoKilledMattStewart.com". If I had a sense that a significant amount of people would use them, I'd make those for sure!

This brings up another interesting thought. In 2011 a town 10 miles north of mooresville called Statesville there was another unsolved murder. Although it’s never been solved either case is different in nature other than there both unsolved. The one thing that stands out in the Joey brewer case that differs than this case is the brewer family has never given up on finding there sons killer. Each year the family has a golf tournament and other fund raising events for reward money, billboards, flyers etc to keep the case and fresh to the towns folks and keeps there sons memory and case alive. Which to me seems to be the logical thing to do for bringing justice to finding there sons killer. I just don’t understand why Matt’s family and friends don’t do some of the same things. It’s just like it’s over for the Stewart family let’s just move along. I applaud the efforts of the Brewer family you can google the Joey brewer case and read all about it. If mAtts family would get on board with doing something to raise awareness and Bring the killer to justice I feel sure that more than half the town would be on board and help in anyway to have a successful fundraiser to help bring justice to Matt’s killer.Again I still don’t understand let’s just sit back and see what happens. In a case like this you have to keep the heat turned up to get results and probably would make the killer or killers make mistakes to get themselves caught.which I surprised hasn’t happened already. The whole let’s move on and put this in the past does not work for me.

I’d contribute to both! The bumper sticker is a great idea! And the billboard could possibly add further interest and pressure, specifically to the Mooresville PD to solve this case!

A case of mistaken identity? I just wondered has anyone looked at the neighbours and whether they were involved in anything serious? It really DOES happen, people go in and shoot up a house, only to find it was the wrong person. For that matter, could it have been his wife they were targeting? In any case, I think it's worth raising as an idea, if only to eliminate. (Forgive tho if I have missed this and u have already done it and checked out the neighbours). Good on u for all the hard work.
