On the end of the last post from justis4matt about the cleaning of the crime scene: just imagine if the people living there now, decide to replace the carpet with hardwood floors in the bedroom. I would expect if that much blood soaked through the carpet there would be staining and soaking into the subfloor. Also, if the subfloor is damaged, would the police be able to get samples to test?

When I heard the last episode, I was thinking why wouldn’t you look to see what number she called, but this was 10 years ago, phones were very different, not like what we use now. Phone company should still have records though, right?? Hoping MPD will look into this. Don't get your hopes up.

The phone was a prepaid flip phone. If there is ANYWAY anyone would know how to find any records of numbers called that night my sister found a number of my old phone numbers on google. Im not going to get my hopes up that this would get the attention of MPD bc looking back, they should have taken my phone as evidence but I told them everything and they never asked. Im not technically savvy at all but I would think that the police and the SBI would have had people who could get info from even a prepaid flip phone but again they never made it a priority.

Exactly... they should have asked some pertinent questions that may have shed some light on what happened early in the investigation.

MPD royally screwed the pouch here.

MPD royally screwed the pouch here. Or did they do exactly what they wanted to do? This is no reflection on the current MPD, but this Seems intentional. I mean even the media coverage seemed odd. A town that almost never sees a murder and it get a few paragraphs in the newspaper? A lot of people didn’t even know about it.

Even if MPD screwed this up, which I believe they did, the SBI should have had enough sense to take my phone. Was Brenda that powerful to have local AND state authorities in her pocket? So many unanswered questions.... If someone killed my husband id fight daily to keep everyone talking. You cannot move on with so much not making sense. Why would Hannah and other family talk on the podcast about what supposedly happened but refuse to when questions are asked? I can understand Matts family being afraid especially if they were threatened but Brenda saying that the killer is alive and well and still out there? HELLO.....GUILTY MUCH.

Another possibility that is very sick if it was the case but maybe Brenda calling Freddie and talking about the killer was her sick way of screwing with everyone who cares....like "You want a podcast with info then I will make some up." She is Brenda....like someone said "weird and quirky"....that call was definitely the very weird part of the duo.

I am sorry for taking what you said the wrong way. There are different accounts about the bbq and phone so I understand why people would feel like maybe it was not all true. I should have thought to look at my phone but my thoughts, at that time, were not about the family having anything to do with the murder. If I knew anything at all I promise I would have called "her" out a long time ago. I do remember my daughter Ashley, who was ready to talk but since finding Hannah on facebook, decided to go in the oppisite direction. I know that 10yrs ago she said something like "I cant believe it. I was just there yesterday and i was at the bbq with them. Can you imagine if I would have stayed the night." I took the bbq as being at the house. That was my mistake. As far as my stepdaughter, who has the same name as me, I cannot account for anything she said. She was not living with us at that time. Both my husband and I know that she was living with her boyfriend at the time. A lot of what she said was basically what she was told. As far as her seeing Matt and talking to him a few days before I dont know but bc she said that he was setting up for a bbq I dont think that shes remembering it correctly. I do not remember her looking at my phone and I dont remember all of my calls being deleted. Its not impossible that she had looked and the calls were gone but its been 10yrs and i cannot say for sure. The only things I can say for sure are 1- Brenda knocking on my door hysterical about Angel being shot. She did not say anything about anyone else except the baby being at the Lawson's until I asked about the other kids and Matt. 2- She begged me to use a phone and said that she would give me $300 to use it. I took it as a woman in desperation to use a phone and never thought that she had her own. Everything was happening so fast I was not even thinking about why she needed a phone other than hers. 3- I did find out, hours later, that she did have a phone but still didnt put everything together. 4- I sat beside her when she called Angel and told her that Matt was dead. She was calm and collected at this point. 5- This makes me very upset.....I was right next to her when Matt's parents came to my house. She did not let them stop the car and she told them "Matt is dead". It was so cold. I know that my stepdaughter wasnt there so she had to have been told that fact by either myself or her sister. 6-SWAT took an ungodly amount of time to go into Matt's home. They came into mine and that was when my children were woken up. It felt like hours had gone by and I could not comprehend why, knowing that 2 people were in the house, these very well trained people took so long to go in the house. I knew in my heart that if Matt wasnt able to yell to his daughter and tell her to get help or just to get her out of the house that he was dead from the beginning. I wish 10 years had not gone by bc I know that there were things that seemed very odd but I dont remember everything so I dont want to get half of a story. I do know that Brenda said that it was a shame bc they were getting back on their feet and had paid off Angel's school debt. Im fuzzy on the number but I think that the amount was $10,000 or $15,000. It may have been a loan they had but I cannot be certain. The last, and most odd/unsettling thing was how Brenda insisted on cleaning up the crime scene. The woman had money. She said it was bc it would cost $5000 to have a crew do it. I dont care if it was $25,000. There is no way she is right in the head cleaning up her son in laws blood and everything else. That makes me cringe to this day. There are trained people to do that. There is no way a person who hasnt cleaned up a crime before or committed a grusome act could do that. I checked on her several times and she only complained of being exhausted bc the blood had soaked through the flooring. Weird/odd/crazy or guilty? Thank you for clarifying all of that. I can't imagine being stuck in the middle of all this, but I know it's important to finding justice for Matt to hammer out all of the details as clearly as possible. That whole bit with the MIL cleaning up the crime scene is just bizzare-o. And it is definitely worth an eyebrow raise. Alone it doesn't mean she is involved, but add it together with all of the other weirdness and it's a pile of circumstances that warrant a deeper look for sure.

She stated it was a burner phone.I may be wrong, but I’m not sure a person can check phone logs from the provider. If they can it should have been checked out.

Interesting that angel goes on Dave Ramsey show recently to say that her and her husband were newly debt free and the majority of said debt related to her school loans. Hmmm. I suppose these were grad degree loans and with Matt they were undergrad. Nevertheless...maybe the new husband should sleep with one eye open. The last time Angel got out of school debt, her husband was murdered soon thereafter. Brenda’s “facts” are SO at odds with her daughters story and with common sense that the MPD must be NC’s answer to the keystone cops.
